Following EFSA’s latest evaluation on the safety of human consumption of Titanium Dioxide (E171) based on new relevant scientific data, and the pending ban of its use in food and beverage applications across Europe, we have developed as FiorioColori a new natural replacement option, to meet all safety and reformulation requirements.

Our latest FiorioNat Swan White product” comments Neil Norouzi, Global Product Manager for Natural Colours, “provides excellent whiteness without grey or yellow tinges, in line with both our clients’ and the final consumers’ expectations”.

"“Our latest FiorioNat Swan White product provides excellent whiteness without grey or yellow tinges,
in line with both our clients’ and the final
consumers’ expectations”."

FiorioNat Swan White has been tested in multiple applications and compared to the most common market alternatives to TiO2, such as rice starch or calcium carbonate, and it has outperformed all of them. Of course, rice starch has its issues: it can retain moisture and have a thickening effect, and it has a much lower yield versus TiO2. Calcium carbonate, on the other hand, can provide a “plus” as a source of calcium on the finished product label, but can negatively impact the consistency and the texture, which might not be what we want.

Our FiorioNat Swan White is heat and light stable, as well as resistant to mechanical stress, and offers brilliant white shades with a cost-effective yield when compared to TiO2 application ratio”, adds Danilo Riccucci, Global Sales Development for Natural Colours. “Moreover, it is label-friendly as it is a natural colour, suitable for vegans and vegetarians, as well as suitable for Halal and Kosher certifications”.
